Cantina La Choperia main idea was to create a kitch-esque cantina that is decorated by popular Mexican handcrafts. The concept was to create a casual and fun place, where you can drink and eat. The studio’s participation was to develop the concept, find and buy crafts, project supervision and to collaborate directly in producing art and furniture. The decoration is mounted in a pallet fabricated shelving design that helps to frame each craft piece. The figures represent Mexican folklore legends and are crafted in various areas of Mexico. Some of the objects and figures are: Mexican cupid, clay catrinas, mask from dance of the elder, coin bank of Jesús Malverde, former Mexican rubber masks (Vicente Fox, Carlos Salinas de Gortari), Virgen of Guadalupe, Frida Kahlo, donkey coin banks, typewriters, cassette players and accordions. In the restroom vestibule we worked directly in the production of a collage of Mexican western comic-books.
