Casa Moore

The studio involvement in this project was design-build. Design-Build is a method to deliver a project in which the design and construction services are contracted by a single entity known as the design– builder or design–build contractor. The house sits on small mountain that overlooks the Pacific Ocean in a private residential area. The foundation is made out of concrete and the structure for the house is from steel columns and beams. The walls are fabricated with galvanized metal and fiber-cement panels. The house is completely insolated by a double of layer of 2” polystyrene sheets. All of the windows of the house are fabricated with a double layer of glass.

These decisions were done in order to make a home that preserves its own interior temperature and excludes noises from the exterior. The concept of the house was to create an open floor space to absorb views and light from the exterior. A distinct characteristic in the layout was to locate the living/dining/ kitchen spaces in the second floor with the intention of maximizing views to the Ocean. The house was equipped with twelve solar panels on the roof, since all the appliances in the home are electrical.
