Café Hidalgo was conceptualized as a reinterpretation of a Mexican “cafe expendio” from the Porfiriato era in the late 19th century. For this project we participated in the development of the concept, preliminary design, construction documents, interior design and project supervision. We proposed a completely open facade that operates with a metal curtain. The bar and counter bar are made of pine plywood that was treated with a steel brush, in order to create a more rugged texture. The background for the bar has a perforated metal shelve design that helps frame the menu, coffee bags and vegetation. The shelving design is contrasted by a rugged white concrete texture. We also designed the lounge seating area located at the center of the coffee shop which uses a bright orange color to contrast from the brown color palette in the space.
